The relevance of this topic arises from the trend in modern preconception therapy, which involves the simultaneous preparation of both women and men before pregnancy. The article examines the impact of key micronutrients found in vitamin and mineral complexes on the reproductive potential of couples.
Preconception care of women involves not only diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic measures but also providing the body of the expectant mother with all essential vitamins and micronutrients at the planning stage. It is well known that 70–80% of women experience a deficiency in three or more essential vitamins, as well as macro- and micronutrients; the lack of these substances can have a negative impact on oogenesis, implantation, and embryogenesis. Supplying the body with vitamins and micronutrients in combination with phytoextracts is a gentle yet highly effective means of modulating the female hormonal profile without teratogenic effects on the fetus. Today, special attention is given to a group of patients with thin endometrium. Preconception care, using a vitamin and mineral complex, can significantly increase their chances of pregnancy and reduce the risk of perinatal complications, as demonstrated by a variety of studies.
Preconception care of men is primarily aimed at reducing the level of oxidative stress by replenishing the level of natural antioxidants, which helps improve spermatogenesis.
Conclusion: Oral vitamin and mineral complexes may be recommended as part of preconception care for couples in order to increase the chances of pregnancy and reduce the risk of perinatal complications.
