Background: Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) is known to be a key marker of ovarian function. It reflects the number of growing follicles and the level of ovarian reserve. The clinical significance of this indicator is poorly studied during the period of adolescence, which limits its use for the early diagnosis of reproductive disorders.
Objective: To study the relationship between AMH levels and a complex of genetic and environmental factors in adolescent girls.
Materials and methods: 48 girls aged 15–17 with no burden of pathology were enrolled in the study. A clinical and anamnestic examination, questionnaires, assessment of menstrual function parameters and psychoemotional state, as well as testing of AMH levels using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were conducted. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to evaluate relationships between the above-mentioned indicators.
Results: We identified a statistically significant weak positive correlation between the age and AMH level (R=0.378; p=0.008), which reflects the physiological age-related dynamics in the formation of ovarian reserve during puberty. Other parameters, including anthropometric indicators, menstrual function characteristics, lifestyle and psycho-emotional state, did not demonstrate a statistically significant link with hormone levels.
Conclusion: AMH levels in healthy adolescent girls are primarily age-associated and are independent of anthropometric, behavioral, and psychological factors. Our findings confirm the physiological nature of age-related changes in ovarian reserve and highlight the need to develop age-specific standards.
