The role of microRNAs that regulate oxidative stress genes in polycystic ovary syndrome
Lomteva S.V., Sagamonov A.S., Kharchenko E.Yu.
Objective. To summarize the current data on microRNAs that regulate oxidative stress genes in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to assess their diagnostic and therapeutic significance.
Materials and methods. A search was conducted for publications from 2016 to 2025 in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, eLIBRARY and Google Scholar, as well as in various databases including HMDD, PCOSKB and miRTargetLink 2.0, using the following keywords: PCOS, oxidative stress, antioxidants, hsa-miR, miRNA, microRNA.
Results. According to the literature and specialist databases, miR-145, miR-16, miR-323-3p and miR-324-3p are involved in the regulation of proliferation, apoptosis and steroidogenesis in the follicular complex cells in PCOS.
Conclusion. MicroRNAs associated with oxidative stress are promising candidates for the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of PCOS; however, their clinical applicability requires further validation in standardized prospective studies.
