Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of results from open microsurgical testicular extraction (m-TESE) biopsy in azoospermiс patients after chemoradiotherapy.
Patients and methods. Micro-TESE biopsy was carried out in 79 azoospermiс patients.
Results. Mobile, morphologically normal spermatozoa suitable for assisted reproductive technology (ART) programs were detected in 18 (23%) patients and cryopreserved; morphologically altered spermatozoa unsuitable for cryopreservation and ART programs were found in 4 (5%) patients; no spermatozoa were seen in 57 (72%).
Conclusion. Open m-TESE biopsy is an effective method for retrieving sperm in azoospermic patients after chemoradiotherapy.
